Achieve high-precision industrial metal casting and improved economic performance while eliminating OSHA PEL concerns with our versatile line of ACCUCAST ceramic casting media.
See why Mercury Marine chose CARBO Industrial Technologies for their foundry needs.
Unlike silica sand, CARBO ceramic casting media produces no respirable silica dust, so it easily complies with OSHA (1926.1153) silica dust permissible exposure limits (PEL). Replacing silica sand with CARBO ceramic casting media is the most cost-effective way for a foundry to meet OSHA requirements for silica dust exposure. Simply upgrading to CARBO ceramic media avoids the considerable costs and complications of installing expensive equipment that would be necessary to meet the PEL requirements. CARBO ceramic media is the optimum solution for OSHA silica PEL compliance in a wide variety of applications.
The technology that creates CARBO casting media produces significantly greater particle strength, durability, smoothness, consistency and thermal stability than sand. This results in superior casting quality, increased dimensional accuracy and enhanced casting capabilities. Uniform particle size and shape maximizes mold porosity and enhances permeability.
The engineered characteristics of CARBO ceramic media reduce casting costs, especially by minimizing casting defects and reducing media consumption. The increased thermal stability and dimensional precision of CARBO ceramic media produce castings of superior quality, thus minimizing the costs of finishing, cleaning and scrap.
A gray and ductile iron job shop using olivine sand in the lost foam process was experiencing high burn-on of media to the castings. In addition, veining defect and distortion of casting roundness occurred, resulting in longer cleaning times and higher production costs. Their goal was to cast cleaner and more dimensionally precise parts.
A captive aluminum operation using silica sand in the lost foam process was faced with a need to increase production to meet engine block production requirements. With multiple production lines already operating, they were faed with a significant potential capital investment to add yet another line.
Switching to ACCUCAST ceramic casting media from olivine sand achieved necessary dimensional tolerances for aluminum marine foundry project.
Eagle Foundrys’ operation needed to achieve compliance with OSHA silica dust permissible exposure limits (PEL) without compromising product quality, process efficiency or economic performance. They decided to replace its entire silica sand system with Carbo Ceramics’ Accucast ID (intermediate density) 70 ceramic casting media. As a result, CARBO Accucast reduced resin, media costs, media consumption, surface cleaning time, and improved the casting surface finish. Modern Casting, June 2018
